A parish church up to the Revolution (when this church was sold as part of the National Estate) belonging to the diocese of Clermont and responsible to the Priory of Souvigny. After being deconsecrated the churched was used as a barn , a marcket and finally a garage until 1978.
Of romanesque construction, with alterations to the west part, the church comprises: A nave with five unequal bays flanked by aisles, which formerly finished in a central apse, demolished in 1795 to make a barn door. |
The different periods of construction
Two East bays of the nave and the East bay of each aisle and also the absidioles date from the second half of the XII th century and come under the influence of Burgundian architecture. The West part of the church is a little older; the broken arches and the pillars from a square mass cantoned by columns with foliated capitals, exscept four West pillars which were repaired in the XVII th century and decorated with flutes and classical mouldings. The vault no longer exists, during the XVII th century panelling replaced the support of the central nave. The roofing of the aisles is a serie of ribs, with broken transverse ribs. The gutter carrying walls have windows framed on the inside by small columns. Exterior Billet moulkings A few modillons holding the cornices. Traduction : Louis Fongarnand |
